Celestia Deeds

December 15, 1930 — October 6, 2016

Celestia M. Deeds, 85, passed away on the evening of Thursday October 6th at the Reading Hospital. Celestia was known affectionately as "Sissy" to family and friends and was surrounded by her loved ones as she passed on.

Born in Reading, PA, she was the daughter to the late Robert B. Deeds and Anna M. (Brown) Deeds. She was predeceased by one brother, Jesse Deeds. She is survived by siblings: Bruce Deeds, widow of Carol; Norman Deeds, husband to Eleanor; and Sharon Maier, wife to Kevin.

Sissy loved her family first and foremost, and while she never became a mother herself, she was Aunt to 14 nieces and nephews and 19 great nieces and nephews. At some point in her life she had babysat all of them and probably every child in a 3 block radius of her home. She was always a kid at heart and still enjoyed animated movies immensely. She will be especially missed by Griffin, Zoe, Zeven and Jacob. They were always helpful to her and knew she had a special heart and that they were in it.

While Sissy never drove, she was an avid traveler on the BARTA bus system. She knew the bus schedule inside out and backward and could get herself anywhere she wanted, transfers and all. She loved dancing, baking her famous banana cake and singing loudly to songs she never knew the words to. She loved animals, especially the dogs in the family and always told us to give kisses goodnight to them from her.

Lastly, Sissy loved lighthouses and seashells and everything about the beach. Sadly she passed the day before she was to visit Rehoboth Beach. Seashells will be available at the viewing to place with Sissy or you may also wish to bring one of your own for her.

Sissy's arrangements are being cared for by Whelan Schwartz Funeral Home, 444 N. 9th St., Reading, PA. Viewing will be held on Wednesday October 12th from 11:00am - 12:00pm , Services at 12 NOON. Interment to follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park. Online condolences can be made at www.whelanschwartz.com.
