1961 — June 5, 2025

Reading

Erin K. Byrne, 63, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 5th, 2025, at Reading Hospital, after confronting glioblastoma with admirable courage and dignity.

Born in Watertown, New York, she attended local schools and graduated as valedictorian of South Jefferson High School. She went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Rochester and a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from Cornell University, where she authored “Fundamental and Applied Studies in Organometallic Chemistry,” published in 1988.

A gifted scientist and leader, Erin was a relentless catalyst for the advancement of women in STEM, championing inclusion and mentoring future generations. She spent her career at the forefront of engineering and innovation, most recently serving as Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at TE Connectivity.

She is survived by her husband, John Maguire of Reading, Pennsylvania; her sons, Andrew Maguire of San Jose, California, and Patrick Maguire of Reading, Pennsylvania; her sister, Julie of Hickory, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

Erin had a deep love for sports and hiking—but none more than for travel. Her passion for exploring the world took her to countless destinations, and, in 2024, she became a proud Million Miler. She also sang and played percussion in the choir at Saint Catharine of Siena Church.
