Joseph E. Schmieder

Joseph E. Schmieder, 77, of Shillington, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at The Mifflin Center. Born in Reading, Joseph was the son of the late Henry J. Schmieder and Catherine E. (Bilak). Joseph was a graduate of Reading Central Catholic High School, class of 1966, and went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. After his service ended, his employment history included construction work in the Berks County area, in addition to being a caretaker for his parents and siblings. He also enjoyed socializing at the 14th Ward club.

Joseph is survived by his sister, Mary A. Kurtz, of Charlottesville, VA, his nephew, Ryan M. Kurtz, and niece, Jaime L. Kurtz. Because Joseph's family isn't in the Reading area, they would like to thank Mike Schofer for his help and kindness over the past several years.

In addition to his parents, Joseph is predeceased by his sister, Jane C. Schmieder, and brother, David E. Schmieder.

Services for Joseph will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Inurnment will take place at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
