Julia K. Mohney

Julia K. Mohney, 96, formerly of Reading, passed away Monday, March 18, 2024  at The Glen at Willow Valley, Lancaster. Ms. Mohney was the daughter of the late Henry Levi Kalbach and Marion(Wilhelm)Kalbach. She is survived by her daughter Geneve L. Coddington, spouse of James V. Coddington of Reading; her granddaughters Hillary S. Hoyes, Austin, TX and Diana L. Coddington, Alexandria, VA ; her sister Marion Gyorgy of Fayetteville, PA and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her daughter Deborah S. Mohney-Hoyes; her son Steven P. Mohney and her brother Henry Kalbach.

Prior to residing at Willow Valley, Julia lived in Anderson, SC and she enjoyed her many volunteer activities, singing in her church choir and playing bridge with her many friends. She was always a good host to all who visited her and was a wonderful Nana to Hillary and Diana.

In earlier times, many wonderful family memories were made when Julia would entertain at the family beach home in Surf City, NJ.

As a 1949 graduate of Penn State University with a degree in Spanish Language, she was local president of the Alpha Omicron Pi social sorority and later used her knowledge of Spanish to host exchange students from South America.

Julia was a kind and gentle loving soul even as dementia entered the twilight of her life.

Funeral Service will be held at Whelan Schwartz Funeral Home 444 North 9^th Street, Reading, Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 11:00 am.  Interment will follow at Jacob Haag Cemetery, Penn Township.  The family will receive relatives and friends at Whelan Schwartz Funeral Home, Thursday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, alzfdn.org in memory of Mrs. Julia K.
