Louis Nelson, Sr

Louis "Lukie" Nelson,Sr.82 of Walnut Street Reading passed away Thursday April 21, 2011 at 12:55 am in The Reading Hospital & Medical Center. He had been a resident in Berks Heim for several years prior to his death. He was the husband of Janis L. (Strausser) Nelson whom he married on September 18, 1993. Born in Rockingham, NC on August 6, 1929 he was the son of the late Kileen Nelson and Cora Lee (Strong) Nelson. Louis attended schools in the Reading School District and was last employed by the Industrial Plywood Company where he worked for many years. As a young man, Louis was known for his art work which was used to decorate for Christmas. He loved being the center of attention, playing pranks on people, then laughing long and hard about what he had done. He is survived by two sons Darrell Nelson, Sr. of Reading and Guye Applying of Reading, three daughters Laura A. Turner-Nelson wife of Sandi J. Turner of Mohnton, Marsha J. Kennedy of Reading and Clara J. Brown, a sister Clara J. Hargrave widow of Dr. Sylvester Hargrave of Somerville, NJ, three step children Tracy Strausser of Amsterdam, NY, Denise Williams and Michael Strausser both of Reading. Other survivors include 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Louis was preceded in death by a daughter Donna Marie Nelson Ennels Caston, two sons Louis Nelson, Jr. and Craig Nelson, a grandson Ryan Ennels, two brothers Thomas and Vernon Nelson. Services from Whelan Schwartz Funeral Home 444 North 9th street Reading Thursday at 11:00 am. Interment Forest Hills Memorial Park. The family will recieve friends Thursday 10-11:00 am.
