Maria Hatzistavrakis, 82, of Reading PA, passed away peacefully in her home on May
Born on December 6, 1939 in Kalloni, Lesvos, Greece. She was the daughter of the late
Paraskos & Eleni (Azadellis) Tsounis.
Cherished and devoted mother to daughters, Angela (husband Paul) of Leesport, PA, &
Elaine (husband Christian) of Willow Grove, PA and to sons, John & Harry (wife Patti) of
Treasured and adored Yiayia to Brandon (wife Elizabeth), Noah & Jaxon .
She was the sister of Yiannis Tsounis of Greece and was predeceased, in April of this
year by her sister, Kleoniki Papazoglov of Australia.
Loved Thea by many nieces and nephews.
Maria was truly a remarkable and brave woman. She left from Greece, along with her
mother, in 1960, heading for NY. She worked hard for her entire life but you
would never hear her complaining about it. Her faith and devotion to God gave her the
strength to face whatever came her way.
She spent the majority of her days cooking, either at her home or at one of the
restaurants that she owned with her former husband, Iggy. She cooked from the heart
and could often be heard singing while doing so. If she wasn’t cooking or baking you
would find her reading one of her Greek books or crocheting. She crocheted up to her
very last days.
Maria was one of the most beautiful souls you could have ever met and she will be
deeply missed by many…se agapame poli xo
