Mary Blessing

October 16, 1924 — June 28, 2014

Mary C. (Brailer) Blessing, 89, passed away June 28, 2014 in Stone Ridge Retirement Living Center surrounded in the arms of her 3 children. She was the wife of the late Theodore R. Blessing who passed away August 1, 2013 and to whom she was married to for 61 years. Born in Reading she was the daughter of the late Francis J. and Anna (Funk) Brailer. She was a 1942 graduate of Reading High School and a graduate of McCann's School of Business. Mrs. Blessing had an interest in art at a young age beginning mediums of Early American Decoration in Tin and Wood which evolved into her passion as a Watercolor artist and was also a calligrapher and a bridal consultant. She was a former member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsman, a member of the Berks Art Alliance, volunteer manager of the St. Joseph Hospital Gift Shop for many years, an active volunteer in the Women's Exchange of Reading, Executive member of St. Joseph Hospital Women's Board and a yearly volunteer for the Reading Hospital Lawn Fair Art Show, Reading Area Community Art Shows and the Reading Fair Art Shows. She is survived by her son Greg Blessing of Riverview Park and her twin children Scott F. Blessing of Wyomissing and Sally A. Blessing-Knerr of Wernersville. She is also survived by her grandchildren Chad Knerr and Ethan Knerr both of Wernersville. Also surviving is her sister in law Elizabeth T. Heist of Honea Path, South Carolina and her nieces Barbara Korth, Ellen Wolf and Patricia Hastings all of Honea Path, South Carolina, Suzie Garrison of Harrisburg and Marybeth Lutz of Reading and her nephews Michael Lutz of Tennessee and Dwight Lutz of Reading. She was preceded in death by her sister Dolores Lutz and her brother John Brailer.
