Michael Allen James

Michael “Myke” Allen James, 74, of Oley, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2026, at Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center. Born in Van Nuys, Los Angeles, California, Myke was the son of the late, Barton Lee James, and Vera Mae (Welch).

Myke played minor league baseball before serving in the Army during the Vietnam Conflict. After his time there he continued to serve his community as postal worker for a short time before becoming an Amador County Sherriff. He spent some time as a private investigator. Upon moving to Pennsylvania, he transitioned through various career paths where he made numerous long lasting friendships.

He loved going to the gym and spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren do their martial arts and boxing and always made an effort to make it to matches. He was very involved with his church and loved God.

Myke is survived by his children, Zachary M. James, of Mt. Penn, Caleb M. James, husband of Thea, of Exeter Township, and Abigail Amy Maye James, of Mt. Penn. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Athena, Jensen, Finley, Barrett, Lydia, as well as brothers, Charles “Chuck” James, and Barton “Bart” James.

A Celebration of Myke's life will be held on August 23, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Dunn Community Center, 4565 Prestwick Drive, Reading, PA 19606, in the Upper Level.
