Reverend Dr. George Fitz

Reverend Dr. George Schaff Fitz, 89, of Wernersville, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 4:30 am at Phoebe Berks Health Care Center.  He was preceded in death by his first wife Patricia M. (Cunningham) Fitz in July 1988 and by his second wife Marjorie R. (Eckert) Fitz, September 2020.  Born in Rowan County, Salisbury, North Carolina, Reverend Dr. Fitz was the son of the late George Taylor Fitz and Ruth (Schaff) Fitz.  He was an Ordained Minister of the United Church of Christ who served several congregations and later in his life served as Director at Bethany Counseling Ministries until his retirement.  Reverend Dr. Fitz is survived by his children Andrew S. Fitz and his companion Yvonne Marie Brown of Montgomery, Texas; Peter Z. Fitz of Titusville, Pennsylvania; David E. Fitz, Husband of Kathleen M. Fitz of Bradford, Pennsylvania; Stephen S. Fitz, husband of Lisa M. Fitz of Morgantown, West Virginia; Gebre Yohannes, husband of Amy Woldu of Woodbridge, Virginia; step-sons Charlie Coco, husband of Tricia Coco of Lynchburg, Virginia; Andy Coco and his companion Kristin Gleich of St. Louis, Missouri; 18 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.   He was preceded in death by his son Andemichael Burhan, husband of Ghenet Woldu, in 2016.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Chapel at Phoebe Berks, in Wernersville, Pa. on December 3, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.  Arrangements are being made for contributions to Catawba College designated in memory of Reverend Dr. George S. Fitz.  Whelan Schwartz Funeral Home, 444 North 9th Street, Reading is in charge of arrangements.
