Sandra Gail Hughes

d. Aug 27, 2026

Reading, PA

Sandra Gail Hughes, 71, of Reading, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on August 27, 2026, following a battle with colorectal cancer.

Sandra was born in November of 1954, in Superior, Arizona, to Raymond Perguson and Clara “Gertrude” Miller Perguson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Steven Hughes.

Sandra is survived by her daughter, Crystal O’Hara and her husband, Dennis O’Hara; her grandchildren, Scott Hartley and his wife, Isabella, Alexander Hartley, and Christopher Hartley; her brothers, Jimmie Perguson and his wife, Sherry, and Danny Perguson and his wife, Kenna; along with extended family and friends.

Sandra spent many years working before retiring, with Hallmark being her final place of employment.

She was stubborn, feisty, strong, and fiercely independent. Even throughout her cancer treatment, Sandra rarely complained. She faced what came with determination and carried on in the way those closest to her knew so well — on her own terms and with remarkable strength.

Anyone who knew Sandra also knew two things for certain: she loved Elvis, and she loved the color purple. Purple was everywhere in her life and became something unmistakably associated with her.

During her final days, Sandra was able to remain at home with her family, surrounded by familiar things and the people who loved her.

A memorial service celebrating Sandra’s life will be held at a later date, with details to be announced.

For those wishing to honor Sandra’s memory, the family asks that you consider making a donation to an organization supporting colorectal cancer research, awareness, or patient care.

Sandra will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
