Shirley Mcmullen

November 22, 1940 — December 28, 2016

Shirley L. (Scott) McMullen, 76, of Exeter Township, passed away on December 28, 2016 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Reading. She was the wife of Merrill McMullen, with whom she shared 26 years of marriage.
Born in Lancaster, Shirley was the daughter of the late Richard E. Bair and Dorothy E. Dean. She was employed by Watt & Shand of Lancaster in her younger years. Later in life, she worked at the Slovak Catholic Sokols and the Oakbrook Fire Company Relief Association in Millmont, PA.
Shirley was an avid Philadelphia Phillies phan. Her enthusiasm could rival that of the most dedicated Philadelphia sports fan. Above all else, Shirley loved to dance. Her moment in the limelight came in 1953 when she danced on the Perry Como Show. We are certain she is now dancing, in Heaven, with her beloved pets.
Most importantly, Shirley was defined by her love for her family. She will be missed but her memories will be cherished. In additon to her husband, she is survived by two daughters: Denise Yeagley of Reading; and Tracey (Yeagley) Zeglen, wife of Joseph Zeglen, of Shillington. Shirley is also survived by her three step-sons: Merrill McMullen Jr. and wife Tina, of Exeter Twp.; Scott McMullen of Alsace Twp.; and Matthew McMullen and wife Stephanie, of Lansdale. Her sister, Judith Witmer, resides in The Villages, FL with husband, William Witmer. Shirley has seven grandchildren: Hilary Kosmoski; Matthew, Christopher, and Lindsay Zeglen; and Colton, Elexis, and Cody McMullen.
Finally, Shirley's family would like to thank the staff at 2 North-PCU in St. Joseph's Hospital for the care they provided her.
Shirley requested no service, instead asking family and friends to think of her, enjoy life, and behave (but not too much). In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made, in Shirley's memory, to the Penn State St. Joseph's Medical Center Foundation, P.O. Box 316, Reading, PA 19603.
Whelan Schwartz Funeral Home, 444 North 9th St., Reading, is in charge of arrangements and online condolences may be made at www.whelanschwartz.com.
