Walter E. Markey, Jr., 97, formerly of Wyomissing, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at 1:30 pm at Phoebe Berks Health Care Center. He was the husband of the late Rebecca E. (Petre) Markey. Born in York, Walter was the son of the late Walter E. Markey, Sr. and Emma M. (Krout) Markey. He was a member of Living Faith Church in Wyomissing, formerly Wyomissing Church of the Brethren. Walter attended the Drexel Institute of Technology (now Drexel University) and earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering and an M.S. in Environmental Engineering. He was both a Professional Engineer and a Professional Land Surveyor in the State of Pennsylvania, and worked as a civil engineer for various consulting firms including 17 years with Gilbert Associates in Reading. He was known for his love of tennis, his love of singing, and his artistic talents. Walter is survived by his children Monique Markey Heathcock and her fiancé Brenden Burke of Gainesville, Florida; Michael D. Markey and his wife Inez Montalvo of Hamilton Township, New Jersey; and his grandchildren Garrett Heathcock, Pierce Heathcock, Isabella Markey, Gabriella Markey, Riley Crismali and Noah Crismali; and his siblings Sarah Markey and Philip Markey, both of York.
A Memorial Service will be held at Living Faith Church 2200 State Hill Road, Wyomissing, at 11:00am on Thursday, December 18, 2025. Whelan Schwartz Funeral Home, 444 North 9th Street, Reading is in charge of arrangements and online condolences may be made at www.whelanschwartz.com.
