Donald Duncan, Sr.

October 8, 1930 — December 14, 2021

Robesonia

Donald B. Duncan, Sr., 91 of Robesonia, Berks County, PA passed away on December 14, 2021 in ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation – Sinking Spring. Born on October 8th, 1930 in New York City, NY, he was the son of the late Eugenia Barroll Duncan and Donald Duncan. Don was the beloved husband of Carol (McClave) Duncan ~ together they shared 27 years of marriage.

Donald studied Dairy Science at Penn State University graduating in 1952 with his degree. While at Penn State, he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. After college, Donald proudly and gratefully served his country in the United States Army; he was stationed in Korea.

Returning to Ardounie Farm (named after a family-owned dairy farm belonging to a close relative in the British Isles) after his Army service, Don took over the management and the growth of the farm.

Don was a long-time member of Porters Lake Hunting & Fishing Club, Dingman's Ferry, in the Pocono Mountains. He served the Club in many leadership positions (including President) over his many years enjoying “the lake” …. the hunting, fishing, boating (& the wonderful members.) Many exceptional & memorable times were spent there including those over some traditional holidays.

For a number of years, Don & Carol also owned a home in Venice, FL, where they tremendously enjoyed sailing in both the Gulf and the Atlantic Ocean. They named their 33' Norton sailboat “Our Seahorse II” … since Don had been an avid and exceptional 'rider' in his younger years and kept a number of horses at the farm from time to time. They sailed out of the Venice Yacht Club. (“Our Seahorse I” was their introduction to sailing, a 20' … to see if sailing would be something to 'get into'.  It obviously was.)

In addition to his wife, Carol, Don is survived by his daughter Barbara Wiggins & his son, Donald B. Duncan, Jr, and his stepchildren, Grace Coggio, Mark Leinbach, and Kira Bauer. He was predeceased by his daughter, (Elizabeth) “Lori” Duncan, of Reading.

There will be no services. Whelan Schwartz Funeral Home, 444 N. 9th Street, Reading is in charge of arrangements and online condolences may be made at www.whelanschwartz.com.
