Lewis (Lew) William Disque
Sinking Spring, PA
Passed away peacefully on Friday, May 20, 2022 from Cancers and Alzheimer’s.
Loving husband, father and Pop-Pop, married to his high school sweetheart, RuthAnn (Williams) Disque, November 21,1953. Married for 68+ years. They had 4 children: daughter Luanne Disque; son Arthur, wife Nancy (Rochester, MN), children Rachel, Alexandra, Thomas, and Maureen; son Craig (Charleston, SC) and his son Ryan; daughter Diane Chattell, husband Howie (Richmond VA), children Ross, Max and Sam Andrews. Five great-grandchildren.
Lew was born in Hunlocks Creek, Luzerne County, PA, of Marion (Ballantine) and Phillip Disque, 10th of 10 children. Graduated from Lehman High School (1952), played basketball and received a basketball scholarship to Penn State University. Lew graduated from The School of Consumer Banking, Inc., University of Virgina in 1968. In addition, Lew wrote a book on Prevention and Detection of Automobile Dealer Fraud, June 1968 and is located in the Library of Congress.
Lew served in the United States Air Force as Airman First Class (E-3) during the Korean War, stationed at Goose Bay Labrador, from 1952 to 1955 – nuclear weapons. He was also on the Air Force baseball team when he broke his nose at an Army base days before getting married.
He started his career at Reading Trust Bank, in 1957, the bank changed names several times during his career and retired from National Central Bank in 1995 (38 years). Lew was a Vice President of Commercial Loans, and was respected for his integrity, ability and fairness.
Lew enjoyed Penn State football, and had season tickets in the late 70’s, early 80’s, where he, RuthAnn and friends would celebrate each PSU score by toasting with a rum-soaked cherry. He enjoyed golfing, camping, and hunting with family and friends. He was a member of the Pennwyn Club for 40+ years and started the Children’s Christmas Program and was involved in many other activities and charities. He was a practical joker and known for his funny one-liners.
Memorial Service will be held at Epler’s United Church of Christ, 1151 West Leesport Road, Leesport, Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 10:30 a.m.
