Maria “Maritsa” Patestas, 88 of Reading, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022, at ProMedica Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation in Sinking Spring. She was born on the small island of Oinoussai, Chios in Greece, she was the daughter of the late Panagiotis and Eleftheria (Moundoula) Kolevas. Surviving is her beloved husband, Pantelis Patestas, whom they shared 64 years of marriage, her daughter Voula Tsitsiris (Dimitrios); son, Panagiotis Patestas (Marie); six grandchildren Areti Alafogiannis (Vasilli), Maria Theodoratos (Dennis), Vannessa Brossman (Tiago),Tiffany Tobin (Casey), Yianni and Matthew Patestas; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Emmanuel Kolevas (Cathy), her God daughter and two nephews. Maria, along with her husband and family emigrated from Greece to the United States in 1968; she worked as a talented seamstress for many years and with her husband, also owned and operated Mr. Softee Ice Cream Trucks. Maria was a parishioner of Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. She was a proud "Aignousiotina" from the island of Oinoussai and enjoyed nothing more than to spend time with her loving family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 3, 2022 at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 1001 E Wyomissing Blvd., Reading, PA 19611. Interment will follow at Charles Evan Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church of Reading, PA.
