Rebecca Markey

Rebecca E. Markey passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at Manor Care Health Service, Sinking Spring at the age of 80 years.  She is survived by her husband Walter E. Markey, Jr. and her children Monique Markey Heathcock of Gainesville, Florida and Michael D. Markey of Hamilton, New Jersey and her three grandchildren Pierce Heathcock, Isabella Markey, and Gabriella Markey.  She is also survived by her sisters Dana Miller of Keizer, Oregon, Mary Ellen Condit of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Bernice Keech of Ormond Beach, Florida and her brothers Samuel Petre of Tucson, Arizona and Rufus Petre of Duncansville, Pennsylvania.  Rebecca was the daughter of the late Reverend Ira S. and Mary G. (Guyton) Petre, who were missionaries in Nigeria for many years.  Rebecca was born and raised in Nigeria, spending her early years in Chibuk, Nigeria, and attending the Hillcrest School in Jos, Nigeria.  She graduated from Central State University in Ohio and taught school in Dayton, Ohio.  Rebecca was past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers, an active member of several community groups, and was a member of Wyomissing Church of the Brethren.
