In the beginning, just after World War II, Kenneth Fleischmann sold the building at 444 N. 9th Street to Francis J. "Bud" Whelan, with the intent of converting it into a funeral home, which he did, and by 1946, "Bud" Whelan was operating the Whelan Funeral Home. In 1979, Todd Schwartz joined the firm and purchased the business in 1981. It was incorporated that same year, and later became known as the Whelan Schwartz Funeral Home, Inc.
Our family owned funeral home has been serving the families of Reading for over half-a-century, and has always believed that everyone should be able to afford a dignified, full-service funeral.
